            "The Half Breed Question" was addressed in a letter to the editor from William C. Barnes,
            editor of Arizona Place Names.  Barnes stated Jesse Walter Fewkes, Washington Matthews,
             and Garland were at the Moqui snake dance in 1895 and discussed how few half-breeds
            there were among Arizona Indians as compared with Indian Territory.  Barnes explained
             that extreme poverty of Indians of the Southwest and the harsh environment were reasons
             for fewer intermarriages.
